Before You Set Goals, Answer This One Question

One of the things I love most about working with agents is helping them turn a demanding, often overwhelming business into something that actually generates both money and satisfaction. I’ve seen firsthand how powerful this work can be when the right systems and habits are in place.

But over the years, I’ve also learned that meaningful growth doesn’t always start with bigger goals or longer to-do lists. Sometimes it starts with a quieter kind of clarity — getting honest about what isn’t working anymore and being willing to let it go.

One question I ask agents every year as they plan for what’s next:

As I review my business over the last year, what do I not want to repeat in the coming year?

This isn’t about self-criticism or replaying mistakes.

It’s a clarity exercise.

I encourage you to make a simple, honest list of the things you’re ready to do away with next year — for example:

“I want to stop …”

  • Wasting money on shitty internet leads
  • Feeling uneasy or under-confident when prospecting or following up
  • Inconsistent routines that take up too much time and produce too few results
  • Enabling my team to produce results that are not up to my standard
  • Carrying stress home because work never really feels “done”

Write it all down. Don’t overthink it.

Here’s the key: this list becomes a compass.

Because on the flip side of everything you don’t want is a clear picture of what you do want more of — better conversations, steadier income, stronger confidence, more peace of mind.

You don’t have to solve everything today.

Just name it. That alone creates forward motion.

And forward motion creates its own inspiration – and momentum.

Everything I do with my agent clients is geared to help them break out of time-wasting, money-sucking habits – and replace those with rock-solid practices that become the foundation for a business you can be proud of.

That’s why I’m so excited about this first-of-its-kind program I have developed for you.

The upcoming 2026 Momentum Challenge is designed around this exact idea — helping agents cut what isn’t working so they can build more of what actually does. If this exercise resonates, you’ll feel right at home with us.
